Happy customers enjoying new Carrier HVAC system by Apex Heating and Air Conditioning

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I have my unit serviced?

All air conditioning systems should be serviced twice a year. Once in the spring time before the hot summer months, and once in the fall before our winter begins. Did you know that preventive maintenance can effectively DOUBLE THE LIFE of your furnace or air conditioning system? Statistics show that your system should last 17-20 years with regular maintenance, but most only last 9-12 years without regular maintenance. Proper HVAC equipment maintenance is also essential to ensuring that your home or office is protected from exposure to issues of poor indoor air quality to ensure safety and comfort. Though system life is determined by a large number of factors including type of installation, climate, quality of the original system, among many others, don’t throw away thousands of dollars on premature system replacement. Contact Apex Heating and Air for more information on preventive maintenance.

What is the best temperature to set my thermostat on?

Between 78 and 80 are the most common settings. Set the thermostat as high as you can while still being comfortable to minimize energy usage. Did you know? You can add 10% to your electric bill for every degree that you set your thermostat below 80. Contact Apex Heating and Air for help with your thermostat.

How often should I have Freon added to my air conditioner?

Having Freon added to your system should not be a routine occurrence; this is a sign of a definite problem. Freon should only be added if there is a leak in the system. All Freon leaks should be evaluated to determine if the leak is repairable. Contact Apex Heating and Air for a HVAC system check.

How often should I change my filter?

During the summer time when your Air Conditioner is running a large percentage of the time, you should change your filter once a month. This includes pleated filters that claim to be 3 month filters. During the mild months use your best judgment. Contact Apex Heating and Air for more information.

What kind of filters do you recommend?

We recommend pleated media filters. The pleats create a much larger surface area for filtration. Let Apex Heating and Air take care of this for you! Contact Apex Heating and Air to schedule routine maintenance or to create a custom schedule to service your business location.
